Okay, maybe it's not the target for Lotus *Notes*, but it's hopefully the target for Lotus Domino. More specifically, the xSP versions of Domino imply a target market that includes service providers, who may want to use Domino to support consumer services, including email or simple web sites.

It seems that there's definitely a market for consumer-level iNotes, which means that these boxes should be able to access some ISPs email services, which Lotus would obviously like to be Domino-based. So shouldn't we have iNotes operating on these Lindows machines?

It would seem that the Notes client would be the platform of choice for content creation if one's ISP is using Domino. Does that qualify as a target market? Might be worth considering.

Anyway, while the $200 Wal-Mart box isn't the Notes target market, it certainly seems that supporting *some* low-end appliance-type system would be valuable to Lotus, particularly in the messaging space.

Unlike a lot of posters on the topic, I understand the enormous cost involved in doing a pure Linux/KDE port. But putting some money and time into WINE compatibility would seem a really easy road to a great payoff. Maybe that's more complicated to do than it sounds. It certainly *seems* straightforward. And you'd have an army of beta testers for it.

*shrug*

Just a thought.
